Robert Watson Art
British, 1865-1916
Robert Watson was the son of the Victorian landscape painter William Watson (1809-1871), and the brother of fellow artists Charles Watson (1857-1923) and William Watson Jnr (1847-1921). The favourite subject of all three sons was Scottish highland views, especially those featuring native longhorn cattle. Between 1890 and 1920, Robert Watson exhibited in Glasgow and Liverpool, and today his Scottish landscapes can be found in the collections of numerous UK museums and galleries.(Biography provided by Academy Fine Paintings)

This beautiful oil-on-canvas painting of sheep on a hillside, dated 1915 is by the British Victorian artist Robert Watson. Robert William Watson was born in Brighton, Sussex in 1855. He was the son of the highland landscape artist William Watson (1809-1871). In 1880, he married Alice Ashcroft and they moved to Aughton, Lancashire, England. They had three daughters, Gertrude, Beatrice and Florence. Watson came from a family of painters who excelled in Cattle and Highland landscape paintings. He exhibited a number of his works across the UK including Liverpool and Glasgow. Queen Victoria was an avid collector of Scottish works of art which made Watson's Highland scenes incredibly popular in the late 19th Century. Thomas Blinks was born in Maidstone, Kent on 29 October 1853 to Richard Blinks and Eleanor Poile. His father was a master butcher in Ticehurst and the family lived above the shop, which is still operates as a butchers today. Thomas initially worked for his father but his talent for art soon took him in another direction.
He married Louisa Anne Winterbottom on 11 April 1874, at Rye, Sussex and together they had 3 children. They lived in Hawkhurst, Kent before moving to Hackney, London in 1878. Whilst largely self- taught, Blinks would have learnt basic anatomy from working with his father, but he also spent time at Tattersalls canine and horse auctions...
